Manovikas College of Special Education (MCSE) recently conducted a comprehensive 5-day online certification program focusing on Universal Design for Learning (UDL). The program, held from October 14th to 18th, aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of educators and professionals in creating inclusive and accessible learning environments. The initiative, spearheaded by MCSE, featured Mrs. Kshama Kausik, Secretary & Chief Functionary (RMKM Chachiyawas) as the esteemed resource person. Mrs. Kausik brought a wealth of expertise and insight to the program, elevating the educational experience for all about 200 participants (Regular teachers, Special Educators and Trainees of MCSE) The certification program delved into the principles and practices of UDL, emphasizing the importance of designing flexible and responsive educational frameworks that cater to the diverse needs of learners. Participants had the opportunity to engage in enriching discussions, gain practical insights, and acquire valuable tools for implementing UDL strategies in their educational contexts. The 5-day program served as a collaborative platform for educators, professionals, and students to deepen their understanding of UDL and its potential to empower learners of all abilities. MCSE's initiative under guidance of Director Fr. Tom and Academic Director Dr. Prem Chhabra, in organizing this certification program underlines its steadfast commitment to promoting inclusive education and advancing professional development within the field of special education. The online certification program on UDL offered by MCSE exemplifies the college's dedication to fostering inclusive and equitable educational practices, setting a meaningful precedent for the broader educational community. मानसिक एवं अस्थि रोग परामर्श शिविर का आयोजन

मनोविकास विशेष शिक्षा महाविद्यालय, उज्जैन एवं म.प्र. विकलांग सहायता समिति के संयुक्त तत्वाधान में ‘‘विश्व मानसिक स्वास्थ्य दिवस’’ के उपलक्ष्य में  दिनांक 08 अक्टूबर को मानसिक एवं अस्थि रोग परामर्श शिविर का आयोजन किया गया जिसमें लगभग 100 लोगों द्वारा विभिन्न मानसिक स्वास्थ्य, अस्थि, स्पीच आदि से संबंधित जॉचें की गई जिसमें मनोचिकित्सक डॉ. महेंद्र लोधी, हड्डी रोग विशेषज्ञ डॉ. विशाल निगवाल एम.एस. ऑर्थो, फिजियोथेरेपिस्ट डॉ. प्राची कासलीवाल, क्लिनिकल साइकोलॉजिस्ट श्रीमती योगिता यादव, मनोविकास महाविद्यालय, व्यावसायिक चिकित्सक डॉ. अवनी व्यास, स्पीच चिकित्सक डॉ. रूद्राक्ष तिवारी, डॉ. धरभ सिंह विशेषज्ञों द्वारा आंकलन व मनोवैज्ञानिक परीक्षण कर परामर्श दिया गया। महाविद्यालय के शिक्षकों तथा प्रशिक्षाणार्थियों द्वारा भरपूर सहयोग दिया गया। मनोविकास विशेष शिक्षा महाविद्यालय की शैक्षणिक निदेशिक डॉ. प्रेम छाबड़ा उपस्थित रही। श्रीमती योगिता यादव, मनोवैज्ञानिक चिकित्सक, मनोविकास महाविद्यालय द्वारा बताया कि लोगों ने इस स्वास्थ्य शिविर के माध्यम से अपनी समस्या से संबंधित समाधान के बारे में चर्चाएँ की। शिविर में ठंडी छाछ, चिप्स आदि व्यंजनों का आनंद रोट्रेक्ट क्लब ऑफ मनोविकास आदर्श स्पेशल एजुकेटर्स की ओर से किया गया। शिविर के सफल आयोजन हेतु फादर टॉम जार्ज, निदेशक मनोविकास महाविद्यालय द्वारा सभी को धन्यवाद प्रेषित किया। 

About

Manovikas College of Special Education was established on 1st July 2015. The Mission of the organization is to provide proper education to children with special needs. Hence by Madhya Pradesh Viklang Sahayata Samiti (MPVSS), Ujjain took the step to train and built the eligible, dedicated faculty and provide equal opportunities to the disables and built them healthy environment . Initially, it was started with first batch of 14 Students scored 80 percentages in the first Semester. With the existing courses, this year Manovikas College got the approval from RCI to start the TTC course on Deaf blindness at MPVSS supported by Sense International India.


The country needs talented and skilled human resources for providing training and education to the thousands of children with special needs. Manovikas College of Special Education  (MCSE) was  founded  by Madhya Pradesh Viklang Sahayata Samiti (MPVSS), Ujjain  in the year 2015, with a vision  to  train and build  eligible and dedicated  special educators. This is the first and only Special Education college affiliated to Vikram University, Ujjain, approved  by Rehabilitation council of India, New Delhi


Special Education may be best described as a purposeful intervention designed to overcome or eliminate the obstacles that keep children with disabilities from learning, in other word it is about providing children with disabilities with individualized plans of institution to help them succeed.


For this purpose MCSE originated by MPVSS, Ujjain. MCSE continuously generating competent trained special teachers.

Objectives

  • Acquire knowledge & skills about nature and educational needs of children with specific disability.
  • Develop conceptual understanding of education provisions and skills for working with children with various disabilities in Special and inclusive settings.
  • Acquire knowledge & skills about human development, contemporary Indian education, and pedagogy of various school subjects and assessment for learning.
  • Enhance knowledge and skills for professional development.
  • Develop communication and language abilities of the child (e.g., Total Communication, calendars, objects, pictures, augmentative and alternative communication devices, words imprint and Braille).
  • Understand the areas of child development and how deaf blindness and vision with additional disabilities (e.g., Mental Retardation, Cerebral Palsy, Autism) impact normal development.
  • Make appropriate transition and vocational plans for the adult lives.
  • To prepare special teachers who can provide services to special children to pre-vocational levels in the following settings:

¤  Special Schools – Day Care/Residential

¤  Integrated \ Inclusive Schools                  

¤  Home Based Programs.

  • Assess the educational needs of children with deaf blindness and children with vision impairment with additional disabilities to provide appropriate interventions.
  • Understand Governmental legislations and concessions provided to people with disabilities.
  • Need for teachers to develop self-evaluation and professional ethics and standards on an ongoing basis.

We create safe environment for students. This includes safety from any kind of abuse, violence, psycho-social issues etc. . To ensure safety and security, 20 cctv cameras were installed across the campus.

Silent Features of M C S E

Library 

In order to support the teaching  and to provide students with updated knowledge on special education, rehabilitation and  other relevant issues  the library holds a rich collection of  variety  of books, periodicals,  journals, subscribed  e-journals , newspapers ,magazines  and  online e-resources. MCSE is also a member of National digital library of India.


ICT Lab 

MCSE has modern ICT lab, equipped well with computer systems of latest configuration, with high speed internet and smart board. Students can avail the lab facility under the guidance and support of technical personnel. 


Resource Room 

College has a resource room  facility  with various  teaching - learning materials which includes collection of  books, charts, games, musical instruments,  adaptive devices  and many other items which are  utilized for delivering special education programmes for children with  disabilities and trainees.  


Wi-Fi 

College is having high speed internet (Fiber Broadband) facility. The campus has a Wi-Fi facility in the college campus for the student and faculty members to avail internet facility.


Infrastructure and Facilities 

For providing quality   education, MCSE has   the   state of the art infrastructure. The college makes sure that the right facilities are made available to both students as well as to the faculty members.

 

Barrier Free Environment 

Barrier free environment is one which enables people with disabilities to move about safely and freely and to use the facilities within the built environment. The goal of barrier free design is to provide an environment that supports the independent functioning of individuals. The building design of the college is inclusive i.e., barrier free in order to fulfill the needs of all people equally.

 

Availability of Wheel Chairs and other Assistive devices 

The college has the facility of Wheel Chairs, other assistive devices as per the requirement.

 

Availability of Lift

Lift facility is available for all floors with appropriate control panels, visual and audible signals, indicating the arrival at different floors.



Availability of CCTV Cameras

Around 20 cctv cameras are operating across the campus.

 

Ramp/Rails and Tactile floor tiles 

The college has the facility of ramp and rails at appropriate places .The main entrances and exits are clearly identifiable and accessible and can accommodate wheelchair users. Steps and ramps have hand railings and the entrance permitting access to a conveniently located lift. Tactile tiles are used for flooring at appropriate places, for people with visual impairment.

MCSE has  well equipped and spacious classrooms as per  the RCI norms.

 

Resource Room

Special School for Practicing

Special school is available for   trainee teachers where they conduct classes every day as a part of practical exposure. Manovikas Special School, adjacent to the MCSE campus, caters to those children who have special educational needs due to intellectual, multiple disabilities or behavioral disabilities. Two hundred special children are taught various tasks and skills by well trained special educators, who are qualified in special education and registered with RCI.They focus on over all development of the special children which includes physical, emotional and creative skills.

Vocational Training Department


Vocational training department has been imparting skill development programmes in various trades to young adults with intellectual and multiple disabilities. It not only aims to develop specific income generating skills, but also believes in developing certain behavioral skills that would enable the trainees to obtain and retain employment or to establish self employment ventures

Therapeutic Department

MCSE has well equipped physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and psychological departments which render therapeutic intervention services to all, irrespective of disabilities. We have a team of qualified and dedicated therapists and support staff.  Trainee Teachers are provided exposure to these departments for developing their knowledge.

Remedial Teaching

Remedial teaching is being done in Manovikas with the intention of giving special attention to children with special needs. It is a method of teaching children with special needs or ordinary children who have difficulty in learning by considering their difficult area. With this kind of assistance, these children can excel in their studies like every one else. These classes are conducted by specially trained teachers so that the children do not have any mental stress. Moreover, learning methods are selected after identifying the learning problems of each child. It is done by using various educational strategies such as more refined practice, explanations and repetition of material for children with various learning issues. So, children can easily overcome their learning problems.

The remedial teaching should be made available to the students who are experiencing the following difficulties;

  • Problems with spelling, grammar or vocabulary.
  • Problem in making notes while listening to lectures.
  • Problems related to reading and writing.
  • Problem in recognizing words.
  • Difficulty understanding the difference between words.
  • Lack of concentration.
  • Finds it difficult to copy anything from the board or book.
  • Language related issues.

Introduction :

B.Ed. Special Education (Mental Retardation/Intellectual Disability) is a course affiliated to Vikram University, Ujjain and approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi. Indian school system is as vibrant and dynamic as Indian Society. Both, Indian society and the Indian school system are full of strengths and challenge the essence of diversity. Coming together with diverse background is part of our growing up and our functioning in the society as adults. Diversities related to learning styles, multiple intelligences, personality profiles or study habits are a few of the factors yet to take their due place in classroom activities. Similarly, diversities of abilities and hence of the related educational needs, too are waiting to be addressed properly in Indian classrooms.

The current curriculum of B.Ed Special Education is revisited to empower the special teachers/educators to ensure education of students with disabilities in an inclusive, right-based and barrier free environment.


EXAMINATION :

Examination will be conducted as per the guidelines of Vikarm University, Ujjain.

Graduation (10 + 2 + 3) from any recognized university with minimum 50% marks.

Eligible candidate can apply for scholarship as per Government rules.

INTRODUCTION

A special education programme must be seen in the overall perspective of habilitation and rehabilitation of persons with mental retardation, keeping in view diverse socioeconomic settings, rural/urban location, specific cultural groups and specific needs of the persons with Mental Retardation /Intellectual Disability pertaining to age, severity, and family background, ecological and social milieu.


It is well recognized that children of the school going age with mental retardation will require services from different professionals. A special education programme should be able to assimilate knowledge and skills from different disciplines and integrate and include them into the educational programme where specialists would continue to serve as essential resource persons.


 

ELIGIBILITY AND SELECTION PROCEDURE

Candidates who have passed 10+ 2 or HSC examination, Passing with 50% marks are eligible for the course. 5% relaxation is for SC/ST Candidates as per RCI norms.
